Xinjiang’s-Gansu bullet train tested

Friday, June 6, 2014

Chinese railway authorities have tested the first highspeed railway in the northwestern region of Xinjiang. Xinhua reports that a CRH2-061C bullet train was deployed on a 300km section of the line, which will eventually stretch 1,776km between Xinjiang's capital Urumqi and Lanzhou, the capital of neighbouring Gansu province. The test train operated at speeds of up to 277kph. Once open at the end of this year, the new Lanzhou - Urumqi line will cut the travelling time between the two cities from the current 21 hours to 8 hours or less.
