The length of the Great Wall of China has finally been decided.
According to the results of a survey by China’s State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH), released on Tuesday and reported by Xinhua, the wall is officially 21,196km long. Earlier surveys had measured the wall at just 8,851.8km long. The survey also found that the Great Wall spans 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and includes a total of 43,721 individual national heritage sites.
The first stretch of the Great Wall was built more than 2,200 years ago, but it has been reinforced and extended several times over the centuries.
