Kunming’s new airport to open

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

A new international airport will open in the Chinese city of Kunming this month.

From 28 June, all services to the capital of south China’s Yunnan province will fly into the new Kunming Changshui International Airport, instead of the old Wujiaba airport. The new hub, which lies 25km northeast of Kunming city centre, has two runways – double the number at Wujaiba – and is expected to be able to handle 38 million passengers a year by 2020.

This will potentially rise to more than 60m passengers in future. It will serve fl ights from international carriers including Thai Airways, Dragonair, Malaysia Airlines, SilkAir and Lao Airlines.
