Chinese airline to link with high-speed rail

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Hainan Airlines has launched a new scheme to enable highspeed rail passengers to connect to its fl ights. The agreement with Yuehai Railway, which operates the high-speed line between Haikou and Sanya, will enable passengers to buy high-speed rail tickets from Haikou to Sanya when booking flights on any Hainan Airlines flight to Haikou.

The China Daily reported the airline’s Deputy General Manager of Marketing & Sales, Yuan Huifang as saying that the scheme was designed to remove the competition between airlines and high-speed rail operators, which has been impacting business.“High-speed rail services heavily affect the business of flights of less than 500 kilometres, but we want to find a way to cooperate with rail systems,” Yuan said.
