The number of tourist arrivals to Tibet increased 23.7% in the first three months of this year, according to the local tourism bureau. The region received 230,000 visitors in the January-March 2012 period, while tourism revenues climbed 27.9% year-on-year to CNY229 million (US$36.2 million). Xinhua reported the bureau’s Secretary, Yu Yungui, as saying that improved roads have led to an increase in overland travel from other parts of China.
