China will overtake the US as the country with the most skyscrapers within five years, according to a new report.

 

The 'SuperCities' study by China-based Motian City, reported and translated by the Shanghai Daily, found that mainland China will have 802 skyscrapers by 2017, compared to just 539 in the US. A skyscraper is defined by the report as a building more than 152 metres tall. In 10 years time the gap will widen, with China reaching 1,318 towers, compared to 563 in the US.

 

China currently has 470 skyscrapers compared to the US’s 533.
