China tourism revenues surge

China’s tourism revenues jumped 22.9% to CNY646.8 billion (US$102.1 billion) in the first quarter of 2012, state news agency Xinhua has reported the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) as saying.

According to the state-run tourism body, the number of domestic trips rose 15.1% to 875 million in the January-March 2012 quarter. No information was provided on the number of international arrivals, but in Q1 2011 domestic trips accounted for approximately 96% of Chinese tourism sector. A similar split this year would put China’s international arrivals at approximately 36.5 million.
