China will host a tourism festival to promote tourist attractions on the ancient Silk Road, Xinhua has reported. The event, being held in northern China's Gansu province, will open on 1 August 2012 and run for a month.

The provincial tourism administration was reported saying that the event is expected to draw 13 million tourists and bring in revenues of CNY10 billion (US$1.6 billion).

The festival will promote 40 tourist attractions in Gansu, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mogao Grottoes and several sections of the ancient Great Wall.
