While the world is looking to Japan for the famed cherry blossom festivals, China’s far western region of Xinjiang is celebrating another type of seasonal bloom.
Almond trees are in full bloom during this time of year, and on 8 April, local people in Shache county, in southwest Xinjiang, held a series of activities to mark the 4th Almond Flower Festival. The festivities are designed to mark a positive omen for the forthcoming almond harvest and boost tourism to the region.
