A visit to Chengdu's panda reserve will make you better acquainted with this rare gentle giant and its equally endearing cousin, the lesser red panda. In laidback Chengdu city, stroll along pleasant old streets and discover some of its 2,400 years of history. In the all-purpose teahouses, sample spicy snacks, sip jasmine tea, watch old-timers play weiqi, and listen to instrumental music or perhaps a free Sichuan opera performance. A variety of stimulating experiences await you in Sichuan whether it is giant panda conservation or the gigantic Grand Buddha riverside statue. The misty heights of Mt. Emei and the natural music of the Pure Sound Pavilion will further inspire and thrill you. To round out this excellent tour, spend a bit of time exploring the friendly streets and teahouses of Chengdu on you own.

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Day 01: Beijing/Shanghai – Chengdu (L)
    • In the morning, fly to Chengdu from Beijing/Shanghai.
    • Chengdu is well-known for two things: its relaxed lifestyle and its adorable pandas. The city itself is awash with colorful characters that should make for some interesting subject matter, especially when viewed down the lens of a camera.
    • Upon arrival, visit a local park to see a typical weekend there, join in a local dance, sip some tea, play Chinese chess and learn to play Mahjong, a traditional Chinese game using little cubes instead of playing cards. Mahjong is an essential part of the locals’ daily life, and you will see it being played in people’s houses, in teahouses and even in the park if the weather is conducive. Later in the day we’ll watch a Sichuan Opera performance - the art of “Bian-Lian “or “face-changing”.
    • Overnight in Chengdu.
  • Day 2:
    Chengdu – Qingcheng Moutain - Chengdu (B L D)
    • Everyone likes Chinese food. Visit a Culinary Museum to find out the culinary history of China, then, learn to cook real Chinese dishes and enjoy your own cooking for lunch.

    • Hotpot for dinner. Be ready for spice!
    • Overnight in Chengdu.
  • Day 3:
    Chengdu - Leshan – Chengdu (B L)

    • In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Leshan (“Happy”) Mountain. The area is known for the largest stone-carved Buddha in the world, the Leshan Giant Buddha, which is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Chengdu and take a walk through Jinli street.
