Air China plans more European flights from Shanghai

Friday, November 27, 2015

Airline applies for permission to launch Manchester and Barcelona flights in 2016.

Air China is planning to expand its long-haul operations from Shanghai with the launch of two new routes to Europe. The company has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch flights from Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport to Manchester and Barcelona.

If approved, the Manchester route will commence in March 2016, with the Barcelona service following in May. Air China plans to serve both cities four times a week using its Airbus A330 aircraft.

Air China currently connects Shanghai with four European cities: Paris, Frankfurt, Munich and Milan, but no airline currently serves the Shanghai-Manchester or Shanghai-Barcelona routes.

In addition, Air China has submitted an application to launch flights from Chongqing to Dubai. The airline intends to operate this route three times a week from 28 March 2016, using an A330. This will also be a brand new city pair.
