Air NZ, Air China to launch Beijing-Auckland route

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Air New Zealand and Air China will launch a new route between Beijing and Auckland this year, as part of their strategic alliance.

The partnership, which has just been approved by authorities in New Zealand, will see the two national carriers increase capacity between Auckland and mainland China by more than 25%.

This will include the launch of the new Beijing-Auckland route on 10 December 2015, with Air China operating the service daily using an Airbus A330 aircraft. Air New Zealand will continue to operate daily flights between Auckland and Shanghai using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and the two carriers will codeshare on each other’s flights.

“China is New Zealand’s second largest inbound visitor market and by collaborating with a strong, well respected home market carrier like Air China we can work together to grow this market, and benefit customers through a new direct link between New Zealand and Beijing,” said Air New Zealand’s CEO, Christopher Luxon.

Air New Zealand and Air China first announced plans to form an alliance in November 2014, and the partnership has now been authorised until March 2021.

The two airlines are both members of the Star Alliance.
