Chinese rail traffic hits holiday peak

More than nine million passengers took to China's railways in Friday - the third day of the 'Golden Week' national holiday.

The figure of 9.02m daily passengers marked an 11.3% increase compared to the corresponding day last year. Passengers were catered for with 5,186 trains, including 295 extra services rolled out especially for the holiday rush. By city, nearly 1.85m passengers left Shanghai by rain on Friday, while 1.19m departed Guangzhou and 1.02m left Beijing.
