Travel content

When the Song emperor fled south to avoid invaders from the north in the 12th century, he instantly fell in love with the city of Hangzhou. Eulogized by hundreds of poets since that time, the relaxing lush green surroundings of the West Lake and hills that lie on the edge of the city have, for centuries, drawn Chinese literati looking for their own inspiration and inner calm. Discover for yourself why the surrounding scenery has set the scene for some of China’s greatest poetry and love stories.

A perfect short get-away or add-on to another China tour, the countryside around the city rewards those that venture past the banks of West Lake. Indeed, for those interested in sampling some of China’s best green tea at the source, a delightful stroll through the region’s tea hills and a chance to meet the people that cultivate the leaves is the answer. So why not relax, unwind, and take this opportunity to visit Hangzhou and see whether or not you too can find your inner poet.
