Travel content

What better way to enjoy a holiday than on a lazy float down the Yangtze River? What's more, our one-of-a-kind Yangtze Cruise ends with a trip to the extraordinary Dazu Grottoes, a series of statues and artwork carved into hills centuries ago.

Sail the magnificent Yangtze River on our modern ship fully equipped with communication facilities, restaurant, Chinese massage, and shops. The journey includes two very interesting shore excursions and a visit to the world's largest hydro-electric facility, the Three Gorges Dam. Then, we will tour Chongqing and the amazing Dazu Grottoes, painstakingly carved by artists from the 9th to 13th centuries. Amazingly, these statues are still colorfully vibrant and lifelike today.

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing / Shanghai - Yichang

    Flight to Yichang.

Transfer to the pier upon arrival.

Your river guide will give an introduction about the cruise vessel and its facilities.

    Overnight on board

  • Day 2:
    Yangtze River Cruise (B L D)

After breakfast, your first shore excursion will take you to the massive Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric plant in the world.

Afterwards, the ship enters the western part of Xiling Gorge.

Before dinner, you are invited to a meeting with your guide, who will give a presentation on the Yangtze.

The cruise Director's Welcome Dinner in the evening, followed by a performance of dancing and singing by the crew.

    Overnight on board

  • Day 3:
    Yangtze River Cruise (B L D)

After breakfast, disembark for an excursion to the Shennong Stream, a small tributary of the Yangtze River. This stream is the main transportation link for local farmers; even today, they pull small wooden boats upstream to transport their goods.

Return to the cruise vessel for lunch.

Next, the ship will sail through the mystic Wu Gorge with its famous mountain peaks and green slopes.

This is then followed by the narrow and wild Qutang Gorge.

    Dinner in the evening.

    Overnight on board

  • Day 4:
    Yangtze River Cruise (B L D)

After breakfast your cruise vessel will arrive in Zhong County where you will have your last shore excursion and visit the Stone Treasure Fortress. This rocky and craggy hill has extremely steep sides and is about 200 meters (700 feet) tall. On the river side of the hill is a red, nine storey pavilion which leans against the hill providing a walkway to the temple at the summit. A yellow doorway at the base of the pavilion provides an entrance.

After lunch you will have time to relax and enjoy a traditional Chinese massage, or join the entertainment program offered by your river guide.

Farewell Dinner in the evening, followed by a second performance by the crew of the ship.

    Overnight on board

  • Day 5:
    Chongqing - Dazu (B L)

Arrive in Chongqing in the morning.

    Disembark after breakfast.

Meet your tour guide at the pier and transfer to the Dazu Grottoes, home to extraordinary rock carvings and statues from the 9th to the 13th century. Not only do these highly aesthetic artworks express the synthesis of China's three religions (Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism), but they also depict the everyday life of people.

You will see the carvings at Beishan (North Hill) and Baodingshan (Treasured Summit Hill).

    Overnight in Dazu

  • Day 6:
    Dazu - Chongqing - Beijing / Shanghai (B L)

In the morning, transfer back to Chongqing.

Visit the old quarter of Ciqikou and see the past of Chongqing. Fuling Park offers a magnificent view of the city.

Afterwards, visit the Great Hall of the People. A landmark of Chongqing, this building displays elegant design, superb craftsmanship, and the harmonious use of color.

Later in the afternoon, transfer to the airport for return flight.
