Allow us to guide you to the awe inspiring ancient ruins of the temple city of Angkor Wat, former capital of the mighty Khmer Empire. Along the Mekong River, crossing from South Vietnam into the Cambodian interior, this four stage trip begins in Saigon with a brief history lesson at the city’s War Museum. Soon to leave the modern world behind, enjoy Saigon’s ample conveniences and stock up on any necessities only to be found in such a large urban centre. A visit to Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda might be an opportune chance to be granted the blessings of the Sea Goddess to which the building is dedicated, before you depart the following day aboard you river vessel. Traverse the Mekong River north through lush surroundings entering Cambodia and arriving at Angkor Wat, the final leg of your journey by speedboat. With your pulse quickened by the swift course cut by your experienced captain, prepare to be sated by the stunning temple complex of Angkor.

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing/Shanghai – Saigon
    • Upon your arrival at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel in the city centre. After checking in, you’ll be free for a preliminary wander around the city’s urban centre.

  • Day 2:
    Saigon (B L)
    • 08:00 AM – Pick up from your hotel for a full day tour of Ho Chi Minh City. Head to Cholon, the city's Chinatown district, discover the markets and shops of the area, and also the Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda - dedicated to the goddess of the Sea. Next visit the FITO Museum, Vietnam's first traditional medicine museum, displaying an amazing collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese medicine, implements used to prepare indigenous herbs, objects commonly found in traditional pharmacies as well as ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine.
    • In the afternoon, you'll visit the War Remnants which provides a very partial, but riveting, perspective of the ‘American War’ and the Reunification Palace, from there stroll to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Saigon Post Office and the City Hall. End the tour with a coffee break at a local corner before getting back to hotel.

  • Day 3:
    Mekong Delta - Panorama River Cruise (B L D)
    • In the morning we pick you up at your hotel in Saigon and take you to Can Tho or Cai Be. You board your wooden river cruise vessel around noon. After a refreshing welcome drink we show you our on-board facilities and your cosy cabin. As lunch is served, the boat starts cruising. Sit back and watch the fantastic scenery and the daily life of the Mekong people.
    • In the afternoon you can disembark for a guided leisurely stroll through a village and the surrounding fruit orchards or rice fields. Meet the friendly locals and taste the local produce and fruits.
    • Get back on board and enjoy a drink at the bar or relax on deck as the sun sets over the magnificent water landscape of the Mekong River. The boat will anchor for the night. The day ends with a delicious on-board dinner. You stay overnight on board your floating hotel in the Mekong Delta.

  • Day 4:
    Mekong Delta (B L)
    • Wake up well rested to the sound of the Mekong river and get ready for another exciting day of sightseeing in the Mekong Delta. At 6.30h the cruise vessel sets off for a sunrise cruise. Watch the locals go about their daily work drying exotic fruits and building ships on the wooden yards while enjoying an early breakfast.
    • After breakfast, we will board a sampan boat to Cai Be or Cai Rang floating market, the region’s busiest and most lively markets. Marvel at the sheer abundance of exotic fruits, vegetables and skilfully handcrafted regional products. We will pull up to the boats for some conversation and bartering with the merchants. We will also visit some of the local candy and cake making factories or boat through the green water landscape to see local houses, verdant orchards and ship-building yards.
    • Disembark the boat at around 11.00 — 11.30h on the pier and enjoy lunch in the Ancient Anh Kiet House or brunch on board. Sit back in the shuttle (bus or car) and watch the water landscape from a land perspective until you reach Chau Doc where we bring you to your hotel. Depending on your budget you can choose the famous colonial-style Victoria hotel (superior room) or a family managed local 2-star hotel.

  • Day 5:
    Mekong Delta – Cambodia – Phnom Penh (B L)
    • We transfer you to the pier where you thewill take a speed boat for an exciting ride to Phnom Penh, your starting point for discovering Cambodia and the famous temples of Angkor Wat. The trip ends here. Please contact us if we can help you organise your tour to Angkor or any further trips. Of course we will also be happy to arrange your transfer back to Saigon.
    • Welcome to Cambodia. Upon arrival in Phnom Penh boat pier (public speedboat stop, around 12:30 h) meet your private guide and driver transfer to hotel.
    • After lunch at Friend restaurant, start to visit Wat Phnom where a 14th century stupa and a small pagoda stands. It is the tallest religious structure in the city. Continue along the riverside promenade, stopping at the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Although some 60% of the pagoda’s contents were destroyed under Pol Pot’s regime, what remains is spectacular. This is one of the best places in all of Cambodia where objects embodying the brilliance of the Khmer civilization can still be viewed; continue to visit the National Museum with its huge collection of Khmer sculpture and artifacts recovered from Angkor. Return back to hotel, free relax as your leisure time.
    • Overnight in Phnom Penh
  • Day 6:
    Phnom Penh – Siem Reap (B L)
    • This morning, our guide and driver will pick you up and transfer you to Siem Reap. Along the way visit Sambor Prei Kuk. The road leading from the main road to the ruins is still unpaved and a bit bumpy at times. Sambor Prei Kuk was the capital of the Chenla Kingdom, which predates Angkor by several centuries. The ruins are spread out over a vast distance. Tourists seldom visit this place so you can enjoy the beautiful ruins in peace and quiet. You will have a traditional Khmer picnic lunch in front of the temple. After lunch, you will continue your journey towards the capital, passing through the beautiful Khmer countryside. Free relax as your leisure time.

  • Day 7:
    Siem Reap – Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom (B L)
    • This morning before sunrise, depart the hotel for Angkor Wat, the largest and most breathtaking monument at Angkor. Built as the funerary temple for Suryavarman II, who ruled from 1112 to 1152, Angkor never fails to reward the first time or repeat visitor with its grand scale, surreal bas reliefs and unbelievable attention to detail. Here, you will spend the morning exploring one of man's most magnificent creations before returning to the hotel for a late breakfast..
    • After breakfast you will start your full day visit to the South Gate of Angkor Thom and the temples of Bayon, Baphoun, Phimean Akas, The Royal Enclosure, Terrace of Elephants and Leper King. Enjoy your lunch at Nest restaurant.
    • Continue to Visit Preah Khan with its labyrinth of grey, decaying stone courtyards that are slowly being reclaimed by the jungle. Large kapok trees extend limbs and roots throughout the carved stone work; while raucous parrots screech and monkeys keep watch to complete a surreal picture.
    • Today you will finish your day tour (walk up) with the sunset on the top of Bakheng Hill, where you can see the view of the temple of Angkor Wat and whole site of Angkor Heritage.

  • Day 8:
    Siem Reap (B L)
    • Today start tour with visit to Ta Prohm. Built in 1186, Ta Prohm was dedicated to the mother of Jayavarman VII. Its atmospheric dark-gray sandstone towers and courtyards exude an aura of reverence and mystery. Next, visit Takeo temple and Banteay Samre. Lunch will be at local restaurant.
    • This afternoon, we'll take a scenic drive to Preah Dak and Banteay Srei, loosely translated as "Citadel of Women." It houses some of the finest and best-preserved examples of classical Khmer bas-relief. The temple's relatively small size, pink sandstone construction and ornate design give it a fairyland ambiance.
