Take a trip to the sacred province of Shandong, the birthplace of Confucianism and home to the magnificent Taishan Mountain. Explore the Provincial Capital of Jinan and the renowned coastal city of Qingdao, famous for its high quality brewery, European architecture and refreshing sea breeze. Visit the northern Shandong coast and discover the mythical legend of Penglai and the fascinating history of the booming port of Weihai and Liugong Island.

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing – Taishan
    • Travel by train to the city of Tai'an at the foot of the magnificent Taishan Mountain. Upon arrival, transfer directly to Mt. Taishan.
    • Take the cable car to the summit of Mt. Taishan, enjoy spectacular views and discover the historical and cultural significance of this sacred peak. For over 3,000 years, Chinese emperors of various dynasties have made pilgrimages to Mt. Taishan for sacrificial and other ceremonial purposes. These activities have acquired political significance and Mt. Taishan is considered to be a cornerstone of Chinese civilization. Tai Shan is also a historically important centre of religious activity for both Buddhism and Taoism.
    • Overnight at the summit of Mt Taishan
  • Day 2:
    Taishan – Qufu – Jinan (B, L)
    • After breakfast at the hotel enjoy a spectacular view of the sunrise over Mt. Taishan in the morning and then return to the foot of the mountain via cable car.
    • Transfer to Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius.
    • Confucius was a Chinese thinker and social philosopher whose teachings and philosophy have deeply influenced Chinese thought and life. Qufu contains numerous historic palaces, temples and cemeteries, many of which are associated with Confucius.
    • Visit the Confucius Temple, the Confucius Family Mansion and Confucius Family Graveyard in Qufu.
    • Transfer to Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province (around 2.5hrs).

  • Day 3:
    Jinan – Qingdao (B, L)
    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Baotu Spring, a historically significant natural spring in the center of Jinan City, dating back to the Shang Dynasty (16th –11th century BC).
    • Also visit Daming Lake in Jinan, a beautiful lake formed from many natural springs.
    • In the afternoon, take the express train to Qingdao (around 2.5hrs).
    • Upon arrival in Qingdao, you will be greeted by your local guide, and then transfer to the hotel.

  • Day 4:
    Qingdao (B, L)
    • After breakfast at the hotel take a tour around Mt. Laoshan in the east of Qingdao.
    • The tall and majestic Mt. Laoshan is famous for its marvelous mountain scenery and coastal landscape. The mountain features numerous scenic spots and walking trails to historic and natural places of interest. Mt. Laoshan is also steeped in Taoist legend and myth.
    • Also explore the wonderful sights of Qingdao and learn more about the European influence in this coastal city with a visit to the Zhan Pier, Little Qingdao Park and the famous Qingdao Beer Museum.
    • Overnight in Qingdao
  • Day 5:
    Qingdao – Yantai (B, L)
    • After breakfast at the hotel transfer to Yantai (around 4hrs).
    • Visit the sacred Penglai Pavilion, an ancient complex that is renowned as a place of fairytale and myth including the famous story of the Eight Immortals. The Pavilion includes numerous calligraphic works by famous writers, and some stone inscriptions. It was once the gathering place for many renowned scholars and poets..
    • Visit Changyu Wine Museum in Yantai and trace the history of Changyu wine from the 18th century up to the 21st century. Changyu was founded in 1892 as a small wine maker. It has developed into an internationally recognized wine brand whose Brandy, Red Wine, Vermouth and Riesling white wine is loved by wine lovers throughout the world. The museum contains two parts: a display area and an underground wine cellar. The display area showcases the development and changes that Changyu Wine has undergone during the past century through pictures and videos.

  • Day 6:
    Yantai (B, L)
    • Breakfast at hotel
    • Visit the booming port city of Weihai, gateway to Liugong Island.
    • Discover the turbulent history of Liugong Island and its strategic importance as a home to the Chinese, Japanese and British naval forces.

  • Day 7:
    Yantai - Beijing (B)
    • Breakfast at hotel
    • Transfer to the airport and fly back to Beijing.
