Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing/Shanghai-Xiamen-Yongding

In the morning, take the flight to Xiamen in Fujian Province.
Upon arrival, our guide will meet you at the airport for the drive to Yongding County (3 to 4 hours).
Northeast of Yongding town, explore Zhengchenglou (Prince of Tulou), Kuijulou (Palace Tulou), Fuyulou and the smallest tulou, Rushenglou. 'Hakka' means 'guest' and this ethnic group first moved south from Henan in northern China to escape severe persecution and famines beginning in the 3rd century AD. Constructed from rammed earth, glutinous rice, bamboo and wood chips, their buildings housed whole clans and were originally designed as protection from bandits. Hakka communities are found scattered throughout Southeast Asia.
    Overnight in Yongding

  • Day 2:
    Yongding - Nanjing - Xiamen (B)

    Visit Chengqilou (Big Family Tulou).
Drive to Nanjing County (about one and a half hours). Visit Shangban Village's Tianluokeng Hakka House, Yuchanglou (Askew Tulou) and Taxialou (Waterworld).
In the late afternoon, drive back to Xiamen and get refreshed.
    Overnight in Xiamen

  • Day 3:
    Xiamen - Beijing / Shanghai (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the lovely island of Gulang Yu, a five-minute ferry ride.
Visit an old villa, watch a puppet show, and wander in gardens and museums, enjoying the old foreign flavors on this historical isle.
Later in the afternoon, return to Xiamen and transfer to the airport for the flight back to Beijing / Shanghai.
