Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing / Shanghai - Qingdao (B)

Morning flight from Beijing or Shanghai to Qingdao (which means 'Green Island', though it is actually a peninsula). As an old port city at the mouth of the Yellow River, Qingdao has a rich and colorful history.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your tour guide at the airport.

Visit Lao Shan Mountain. With its varying vegetation at different elevations Lao Shan is one of the most venerated Taoist pilgrimage destinations.

You will also visit the pavilions of Taiqing Gong (Palace of Great Purity).

    Overnight in Qingdao

  • Day 2:
    Qingdao (B)

    Breakfast at the hotel.

    Visit May Fourth Square.

Visit Badaguan, one of Qingdao's beaches famous for its exclusive guesthouses. It is pleasant to stroll around its lush woodlands, where each street is lined with a distinctive variety of flower or tree.

Visit the Qingdao Brewery. Qingdao has China's largest brewery and many branch distilleries, an industry originally founded in 1903 by German settlers. The beer retains the old spelling 'Tsingdao' and its present-day logo displays an image of Zhan Qiao, the famous pier on Qingdao's southern shore.

Visit Zhan Qiao Pavilion. Enjoy Zhan Qiao Pier, one of the most famous places in Qingdao, with its unrestricted ocean vistas.

    Overnight in Qingdao

  • Day 3:
    Qingdao - Tai'an (B)

    Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Tai'an by coach (approximately 5 hours).

A city tour in Tai'an will take you around its interesting main roads around the Dai Temple, Hongmen Lu, at the foot of Tai Shan.

  • Day 4:
    Tai'an (B)

    Breakfast at the hotel.

  • Day 5:
    Tai'an - Qufu - Beijing (B)

    Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Qufu by coach (approximately 1 hour). Qufu is a town of supreme significance to many Chinese people because it is the birthplace of Confucius, its most venerated sage, who was poor and unrecognized in his own lifetime. Qufu is a harmonious place of wood, stone and imperial architecture.

At the old center of Qufu are the vast grounds, pavilions, stone stele tablets and gardens of Confucius Temple and the Confucius Mansions. The original temple dates back to 478 BC, but most of the present buildings are from the Ming dynasty.

Also visit the Confucius Forest, with over 100,000 pine and cypress trees planted by Confucius' students. It is China's largest artificial park and best preserved cemetery where Confucius and his descendants have been buried for over 2,000 years.

    Transfer back to Tai'an.

Night train to Beijing or Shanghai with overnight on the train, arriving in Beijing / Shanghai in the early morning.
