Travel content

Xishuangbanna, is located in the tropical zone of China, in the deep south of Yunnan, bordering Myanmar and Laos. The region is covered with small villages and pockets of tropical forests. The Mekong River flows through the area and it has become popular amongst tourists due to its tropical climate and lush vegetation. Kunming is a pleasant modern city in the heart of Yunnan with an altitude of 1890 m above sea level which makes it special in terms of vegetation with many places to explore. Xishuangbanna also has beautiful sights such as the Menghai Market, the Octagonal Pavilion and exotic gardens full of tropical plants. Here, you will also have a chance to visit villages of different local minorities such as the AiNi, Jinuo and Bulang.

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing / Shanghai - Kunming (L)

    Flight to Kunming in the early morning, your tour guide will meet you at the airport.

    Your first visit in the "City of Eternal Spring" will lead you to the Western Hills, also known as the "Sleeping Beauty Hills", located close to the Dianchi Lake. Up on the hills you will visit the Daoist Dragon Gate with grottoes, stone carvings and pavilions.

    Stroll around the lively flower and bird market of Kunming afterwards.

    Overnight in Kunming

  • Day 2:
    Kunming (B, L)

    After breakfast at the hotel, visit the famous Stone Forest, a labyrinth of steep rock needles and narrow openings located 120 km outside the city. Walking through the Stone Forest, visitors marvel at the natural stone masterpieces and are bewitched by the intricate formations. The magnificent, strange and steep landscape creates countless labyrinth vistas during an extensive walk.

    On the way back, you will visit and learn the local people's way of life at an Yi Minority Village.

    Overnight in Kunming

  • Day 3:
    Kunming - Xishuangbanna (B, L)

    After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to airport for the flight from Kunming to Xishuangbanna in the morning.

    Upon arrival, your tour guide will meet you at the airport.

    Next, visit the Menghai Minority Nationalities Free Market - where villagers meet daily to trade in all manner of wares and produce.

    Then visit Octagonal Pagoda (Ba Jiao Ting) - Artistic architecture of Chinese-style built several centuries ago and Wild Elephant vale.

    Overnight in Xishuangbanna

  • Day 4:
    Xishuangbanna (B,L)

    Have breakfast at the hotel then visit the Olive Plain (Ganlanba) - there are large plantations of rubber and fruit trees, which are interspersed with emerald rice fields, random groves of coconut palms and occasional tea fields.

    Then visit Menglun Tropical Plants Park.

    Overnight in Xishuangbanna

  • Day 5:
    Xishuangbanna - Kunming - Beijing / Shanghai (B)

    Breakfast at the hotel then transfer to the airport. Flight from Xishuangbanna to Kunming, and then connect to your flight back home.
