Travel content

Board a comfortable soft sleeper train and get whisked away to Xi'an, where you will explore this ancient capital's architectural wonders from pagodas and mosques to the best preserved old city wall in China. You will also see the city's main highlight, the Terracotta Warriors, and sample delicious Xi'an culinary specialties.

 

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing / Shanghai - Xi'an

    Beijing departure:
    Go to Beijing West Railway Station and take soft-sleeper train to Xi'an (flight available on request).
    Overnight on the train or in Xi'an

    Shanghai departure:
    Transfer to Shanghai Pudong Airport for flight to Xi'an.
    After arrival, transfer to hotel and check in.
    Overnight in Xi'an

  • Day 2:
    Xi'an (B, L, D)

    After breakfast at the hotel, take a walking tour of the City Wall, the most complete of its kind remaining in China today.
    Next, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in the Tang Dynasty.
    For lunch gain a special introduction to the local dish of paomo, chewy bread dipped in savory mutton beef soup, as well as "the Eight Scenes of Chang'an," a feast for both the eyes and the stomach.
    In the afternoon, explore the astonishing Terracotta Warriors and Horses which date back to the Qin Dynasty (3rd century BC).
    Dinner will be a dumpling banquet held at the most famous local dumpling restaurant.
    Free time after dinner.
    Overnight in Xi'an

  • Day 3:
    Xi'an - Beijing / Shanghai (B, L)

    Breakfast at the hotel.
    The Great Mosque of Xi'an exhibits an interesting fusion of Chinese and Islamic culture. Built primarily in the Ming Dynasty, it's one of the few remaining mosques from ancient China.
    Next we will visit the Stele Forest, home to a rich collection of stone tablets carved with fine calligraphy and literati writings.
    After a lunch of local specialties, we will visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum (closed on Mondays), a treasure trove of archaeological and historical artifacts unearthed from historical Shaanxi.
    Dinner is not included, but coffee and snacks are available outside the museum.
    Transfer to Xianyang Airport for return flight to Beijing / Shanghai.
