TUI honoured for innovative cooperation schemes in China

Thursday, January 10, 2019

Beijing’s Mayor and Tourism Administration have honoured TUI for innovative tourism concepts. The Chinese capital’s tourism officials did not only recognise TUI’s long-standing engagement in China but also the international marketing partnership aimed at increasing awareness of Beijing as a top tourism destination, which has recently been significantly expanded. TUI’s tour operator Gebeco was among the first international travel companies offering travel to China since the country’s cautious opening for tourists in 1979. In 2003, TUI established its first China-based company in Beijing with TUI China – back then, it was the only tourism company in the world’s largest travel market in which a foreign company held a majority stake.

In 2017, TUI China CEO Dr Guido Brettschneider had concluded a comprehensive cooperation scheme with Beijing’s Tourism Administration in the framework of an expansion of TUI China’s business areas. TUI China has increasingly taken advantage of the international footprint and competence of TUI AG and its national companies in order to develop market-driven concepts to promote Beijing as a top destination in Europe. “TUI’s strength and market leadership in many markets and destinations significantly helps us deliver our growth programme in China. Due to the improved internal networking, we can market this competence here and develop new tourism products with our partners,” said TUI China CEO Brettschneider.
